Whenever the code official has made a determination under any part of Chapter 6 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ottawa, that a structure is vacant, unfit for human habitation or occupancy, or dangerous, unsafe or blighted, he or she is authorized to condemn such structure and post a placard of condemnation on the premises and order the structure closed up so as not to be an attractive nuisance.

Any structure condemned and placarded by the code official shall be vacated as ordered by the code official. Any person who shall occupy a placarded premises, and any owner or any person responsible for the premises who shall let anyone occupy a placarded premises shall be liable for the penalties provided by this article.

Any person who defaces or removes a condemnation placard without the approval of the code official shall be subject to the penalties provided by this article.

Violation of Section 6-1302 is a Class B misdemeanor. Each day that a violation occurs after a complaint has been issued shall be deemed a separate offense. Violation of Section 6-1303 is a Class C misdemeanor.
